The title is:
Cycling to Extremes
Are endurance athletes hurting their hearts by repeatedly pushing beyond what is normal?
Pretty scary stuff. It's a good read with some data pertinent to Masters athletes (most of us), but I'm not going to get my undies all in a bunch and start selling my bikes. In my humble opinion there is not doubt that maintaining a fit lifestyle (good nutrition, good exercise, good rest) is, on the whole, the best way to grow old. I've simply seen too many data points supporting the need for a vigorous bad ass lifestyle to trade my bikes for a Lazyboy. What I take away from this article is that as we age we need to focus more on rest and recovery, and we can't simply hammer hard seven days a week and expect to remain fit, healthy....and alive.
